How to care for dry and/or weak, brittle hair?
Dry hair and scalp is the worst because it leads to dull, weak and brittle strands, split ends, and/or breakage, dandruff, itchiness, inflammation, and sores. Dryness can be caused by many things including weather/environment, excessive heat styling, smoking, not drinking enough water. Dryness can also be triggered by the use of wrong products like drying alcohol-based products (stripping shampoos, gels, hair sprays) OR by using the right products in the wrong way like applying cream before liquid. The good thing is that dry scalp and hair are solvable by consistent care.
Some of our best recommendations include styling hair while wet, consider your environment (like cold, dry air or humidity), using hydrating, liquid products (i.e. water or aloe vera juice are usually the first ingredient) BEFORE adding creams, butters, and gels, and keeping your body hydrated in general. Kyra's Shea Medleys products are natural and vegan and we've put together this simple hair care routine to help address the dryness without harming your hair. Here's how:
STEP 1:
SCRUB
(scalp about 1x per week or every other shampoo)
STEP 2:
CLEANSE
(1x per week or as needed; over-cleansing = dryness)
STEP 3:
CONDITION
(for 5 minutes then rinse; leave-in if hair tends to be very dry)
STEP 4:
REFRESH
(scalp and hair with floral water up to 2x daily; 3x if very dry)
STEP 5:
MOISTURIZE
(and seal floral water with butter or oil 1x daily; 2x if very dry)
DONE!
Repeat 5-step routine as necessary & listen to your hair's needs.
